I am pretty new to the whole Bible journaling movement – I mean, I only started a couple of months ago. At first, I didn’t think it was anything special; but, once I started doing it myself, I fell in love! Here are my top three (brief) reasons why Bible journaling has won my heart.
Three reasons why I love Bible journaling:
1. I love how it helps me visually picture a verse
I am extremely visual with most things. If I have to memorize a text for school, I try to think of pictures or combinations of words to help me. I love Bible journaling because I can organize the words from the verse in an artistic and memorable way that embeds the meaning of the verse further in my brain and heart.
Plus, I am able to pick the specific verses that are meaningful to me, not just verses that have been picked by someone else. Thus, I strongly encourage you to use Bible journaling if you are considering memorizing scripture!
2. I love how it lets me exercise my artistic creativity
Something that most people don’t know about me – except for my family, of course – is that I am very artistic. I love to draw, paint, sew, embroider, do graphic design, compose music… the list goes on and on. But, most of those things I do very infrequently because I simply don’t have the time.
However, what I love about Bible journaling is that it combines so many different activities that it is both useful AND artistic! Plus, it is incredibly flexible. You can be as artistic and creative as you want. For me, I appreciate more text on my journaling pages, whereas some other journalers prefer more artsy drawings. Whatever floats your boat! Bible journaling can be practically anything you want it to be!
3. I love how it gets me into the Word more often
I guess for practically any Christian, this is always a struggle. Having a consistent schedule for reading the Bible can be notoriously difficult; not because it isn’t enjoyable, but because of life. I am no exception. But, since I started journaling in my Bible, it has been so much easier. I mean, it still takes effort and dedication to pull out your Bible & your art supplies – but, you are more motivated.
I have also noticed that it provides an outlet for me to write more. I have tried to keep a journal countless times throughout my life. But, for the same reason I sometimes slack on my quiet times, I have been unsuccessful in sticking to any particular schedule. Though, now that I have begun Bible journaling, I add small journal entries whenever I feel the need to write my feelings and life events down. It corresponds with my artistic rendering of the verse, it is all in one collected place, and I do it whenever I have the time! Win-win!
Try something new!
This week, I encourage you to give Bible journaling a try if you’ve never done it before! Personally, I have found it extremely rewarding, and a fresh, new way to approach the Bible. I also encourage you to check out Pinterest if you need some artistic inspiration. It has been very helpful in inspiring me in my own Bible journaling endeavors. I have created my own Bible journaling board to collect ideas that I love – check it out!
I hope you all have a great weekend!
